Auckland International Airport

The Client

In 1997, the Auckland International Airport decided to outsource much of the maintenance and service of the mechanical air conditioning and ventilation equipment in the airport buildings and satellite buildings that they owned and leased out.

The Challenge

The level of Health and Safety and Environmental compliance demanded by the airport authority is well above that of typical contracts, with Permits to Work required for all terminal installations, the requirement for three hours of monitoring following hot works, and stringent guidelines for airside works. Econair has satisfied and even exceeded these demands.

“Their attitude to safety is second to none and they have worked well in a very trying and difficult environment. Econair Services Ltd have always adhered to the permit requirements of Auckland International Airport.”
Jason Gray
Airfield and Terminal Services Manager

Solution

Two service technicians are permanently based at the airport, with other technicians being available for busy periods. This means that we and do respond rapidly to service calls.

Outcome

Since 1997, this contract has been renewed twice. Our retention as service provider for 20 years is a firm indication of client satisfaction with the quality of our workmanship. Airport facilities management and general maintenance staff rely heavily on the Econair technicians to assist and give advice. It is common for our service technicians to be called after hours by airport staff for advice.

In recognition of the airport’s drive to save energy, Econair has added value through our involvement in the installation of energy-efficient UV lights for the air handlers and variable speed drives on the cooling towers to save energy (and associated costs) for the client.
